I had reached an impasse I suppose. And by that I mean the page was blank with the story set to go live the next day. So decided to write the story long hand, like I used to do in my college days. I printed out all my material and went to Shiner’s Saloon down the street with a pen. We take most of our meetings at Shiner’s, it beats a conference room and the bar stools are really comfortable.
There was a man in the seat next to me at the bar, probably in his mid 40’s. We didn’t speak. I just sat there, obviously distressed. He finally introduced himself as Richard and asked if everything was ok? I told him I was writing a story about this flight medic that needed help from the users at the website my brother and I run (I never assume people know who I am). And we have this team of people who work really hard to condense all this information for me, and this paramedic really needs our help, and my only job is to just bring it home and I got nothing. I’m failing the team.
Richard got up and walked up to me and placed a $20 bill on the bar in front of me. “You’re gonna be fine, son. And I’d be honored to be the first to donate to this deserving man. Give yourself a break, write from your heart, and the Chivers will take it home. KCCO.”
It’s a funny thing, I didn’t create the RAK and the pay-it-forward spirit that exists here at theCHIVE, the community is responsible for this. I do my part to foster its growth. But you created the idea. And that RAK has swirled around the cosmos and circled back to me and my pile of papers on bar in Austin this week. The act inspired me, I wrote the story and the Chivers took it home, just as Richard said you would.
I snapped a pic of Richard’s donation, thanks buddy.
The lineup for Chive Fest at Soldier Field will be released later next week. It’s going to be one of the best outdoor festivals this year but we’re keeping it relatively small this time around.
You can sign up to receive early notification for the tickets RIGHT HERE. Over 30,000 have signed up already so it’s become increasingly important to sign up because securing a ticket during the general admission ticket sale will likely be reminiscent to when we make Keep Calm and BFM available.

Sotally Tober is finally back in stock RIGHT HERE (if you even see that t-shirt in this photo).
Yes, there’s actually a Smores Smoking Rack and it’s badass. Here you go.
