If you hop on the I-35 South in Austin and head 30 miles south, just off exit 205 near San Marcos roll down your windows and take a left at the cemetery, then take the last right before the railroad tracks. There you’ll find an old barn tucked away in the middle of nowhere.
Inside that barn though are some of the best iron workers and sign makers in the world, responsible for some of the most famous festival installations out there today – Blackout Signs have created everything from the towering ACL Picture Frame to Lalapalooza signs.
It’s in this barn the colossal art installations of Chive Fest are coming together. And Saturday, June 28th thousands of music enthusiasts across country will come together for this one-of-a-kind music experience. We took a road trip out there yesterday to give you a behind-the-scenes look at some of the whimsical oversized creations you’ll see at Chive Fest.
Chive Fest Chicago tickets are still available but word is spreading fast across the Windy City and they won’t be available much longer.
Jessie, Chelsea and I rolled up to the barn, we didn’t know if we were in the right place.
Colorful signs everywhere illuminate the interior of the barn…
This huge Chive Fest sign will rest atop the entry portal in Chicago. Towering 20 feet into the sky you’ll be able to locate the entry to Chive Fest easily from the parking lot.
This is Jay, the creative mastermind behind Blackout Signs.
The Big Ass Green C – This monster neon C will be the centerpiece of Chive Fest, a rally point for many, up to 5 people will be able to stand inside it for photographs. When you see this at night, it’s gonna’ be spectacular.
Fabrication on the You Must Be This Tall To Ride Ostrich just started. This towering ostrich will double as a 4-sided Info Tower which will show a map, lineup, and sponsorships dedicated to each of the 4 sides. There will be a yard stick 15 feet high under the ostrich’s beak so you can take you picture under it and pretend you’re way too small to ride.
