Yesterday afternoon people gathered in droves to eat some unbelievably tasty food for free thanks to the guys from Triple G Relief. The creators and cooks, Seth Ringley and Blake Giles, travel around the country to areas stricken by natural disasters and cook delicious food for those affected. In 2013 they served nearly 20,000 plates of quality meals to those who needed it the most!
As the incredible smell spread downtown, the crowds gathered quickly.
Patrick McManis headed up the Blue Santa Fundraiser.
Operation Blue Santa is a non-profit, community based charity, organized by the Austin Police Department, who every year provide families with a full holiday meal, and with wrapped Christmas gifts for underprivileged children of all ages.
Their service began with about 20 needy families in 1972, and this year will easily serve over 3800 families.
Blue Santa himself. TheBERRY girls were gushing.
Chivers gathered around theCHIVE’s airstream for some shade and a few free tee shirts.
Did we mention it got hot out?
It was over 100 degrees outside so John’s RAK was to take people in groups inside our office’s walk-in beer freezer to cool off.
After their release it seemed only fitting to celebrate with a round of beers.
This is officer Pat Brown who kept a close watch on the event.
Austin Pets Alive! is an organization dedicated to stopping the killing of Austin’s adoptable dogs and cats. They currently go through 6,000 pounds of dog and cat food a month to sustain animals at their no-kill shelter.
Tanya is the cutie on the left who actually started out as a volunteer herself who now works as a full time employee heading up special events all over the Austin area.
The line was thick with anticipation for their savory BBQ.
After the lunch was 86’d it was on to the Blue Santa raffle.
Karma worked in Pat’s favor as she walked away with one of the day’s big raffle prizes.
The prizes ranged from $150 house cleanings and personal massage gift certificates…
To bigger prizes like Ipads and a PS4.
The trips to the freezer continued as the day wore on. Unfortunately, they didn’t always go as planned…
theCHIVE donated 4 grand to Triple G’s cause. It was the least we could do. Honestly, these guys deserve so much more.
A little side note about the guys from Triple G. is that the crowd absolutely devoured every last ounce of their food, and at no point did they take a break from the heat to eat themselves. Hundreds of pounds of grub were consumed and these guys cared more that everybody else got their food instead of themselves.
The food coma begins.
Thanks again to all the people who made this Fundraiser such an amazing event. This is what RAK week is all about.
