Sci-fi Genre: Bio-punk/genetic manipulation/dystopian futurism/Thriller
Starring: Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman
In the near future, genetics determine everything. No one is naturally born, but are composed of the best genes out of their parents in a eugenics program. When someone born outside of that program wants to have the chance to get sent into space, he concocts a devious plan to pass genetic screening.
Ideas like this might be in the realm of science fiction, but aren’t actually too far from science fact. The fact that there’s a future where genes can be selected like ingredients, there’s one thing that they can’t sequence, and that’s the human spirit, and that comes through strongly in this film.
