For those that didn’t follow Star Trek and have no idea what I’m talking about, but clicked on the post nonetheless, here’s what we used to know about redshirts. On the original Enterprise, the different branches of the crew were denoted by colours. Gold was Command, Blue was Science and Red was Operations which included communications, engineering & security. Whenever any of the major characters met up with aliens, beamed down to a planet, etc… they always brought a team of redshirts that were essentially canon fodder. It was guaranteed that someone was going to die, and they would be wearing red.
Starting with the 1966 episode “What Are Little Girls Made Of?”, of the 43 deaths shown on screen, 25 (58%) of them were redshirts. So the original theory holds up. If you’re wearing red, you’re gonna die.
Which begs the question, where’s this guy getting his info and has he been streaming too many episodes on Netflix and is currently brain-fried.
Not so fast. Math to the rescue.
