The Cassini-Huygens mission is a joint project between NASA, ESA (European Space Agency) and the Italian Space Agency. Cassini has been traveling in space for almost 20 years, and after its long career of giving us really cool information (like you see above), it’s scheduled to start its final mission this week.
Cassini’s is expected to make the first of 22 dives between Saturn and its rings on Wednesday. The last dive will take place on September 15th and the plan is that Cassini will destroy itself by flying straight into Saturn’s atmoshere.
Seeing ourselves at such an extreme level of insignificance really puts things into perspective, don’t you think?
