Underwater Pirate City at Port Royal
Port Royal, Jamaica
Once known as the “Wickedest City in the World,” this town got it’s comeuppance. In the 1600’s, this town was known for its sinful ways, with pirates, prostitutes, vice, drugs and even it’s own batch of blackout inducing rum called Kill Devil Rum. Then in 1692, there was an earthquake hat seemed to swallow the entire town whole.
That morning, the 7.5 magnitude quake seemed to liquify the city, as it was all built on sand, and everything just sunk. Now, it’s been compared to Pompeii, in terms of who complete the ruins are. Though submerged under 40 feet of water, there’s still a city down there, showing us what life in the 17th century really was like.
