NHTSA and law enforcement across the country are working together to enforce drunk driving laws and save lives, especially from now through the upcoming holiday weekend. So everyone please do the right thing and don’t drink and drive! This is one of the deadliest times of the year for drunk-driving crashes. Over Labor Day weekend in 2015, there were 460 crash fatalities nationwide. 40% of those involved drivers who had been drinking – a quarter of whom were almost twice the legal limit or more… With NHTSA’s support, state and local law enforcement agencies across the country are stepping up enforcement to put an end to drunk driving.
Not only is drunk driving extremely dangerous, with approximately one person killed every 51 minutes by a drunk driver… it’s also crazy expensive and damaging to your life. On average, a DUI can set you back $10,000 in attorney fees, fines, court costs, lost time at work, higher insurance rates, car towing and repairs, and more.
Here at theCHIVE we party with a purpose, but we also party with a plan. Agencies and law enforcement can only do so much, it’s up to us to make smart decisions to protect ourselves and the people around us. If we’re unable to pick you up on tonight PLEASE call a Fasten, Uber, Lyft, Ride Austin, or taxi.
You can also download NHTSA’s SaferRide mobile app for Android, and IOS. SaferRide allows you to call a taxi or a pre-chosen friend, and identifies your location to get you home safely… and if you have a friend who is about to drink and drive, take the keys away and help make arrangements to get them home safely.
