Dr. Dre, Detox. The longer it took for Detox to come out, the more its legend and supposed greatness grew. Dr. Dre promised that almost every song could be a single, probably because every major player in hip-hop contributed in some way. It took so long to make that the talent spans a generation of music: from Snoop Dogg at his peak to 50 Cent, to Kendrick Lamar. Dre kept tinkering with it, missing release dates in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011. Finally, in 2015, Dre made an announcement on his Beats 1 radio show: Detox was never coming out. Why? Dre said, simply, “I didn’t like it. It wasn’t good.” Instead, inspired by the film about his life, Straight Outta Compton, Dre recorded an entirely new album called Compton: A Soundtrack and released it right away.
