Although he admitted feeling ‘knackered’ half way through his 30-minute swim, he was aware he had to make it to the other side as he felt himself being pulled towards the dam.
“I was sucked towards the wall and had to swim hard. At the other side I was exhausted.”
Once he made it across he was handcuffed by waiting police, police who were shocked he had survived.
“One officer said, ‘In my whole lifetime I’ve never seen or heard of anyone doing it”.
He was duly fined $330 for “jumping, diving, swimming from dam’s spillways or other structures”.
