Sued because Foster’s beer isn’t actually Australian.
Do remember these ads, right? “Fosters, Australian for beer!” Makes sense, based on their brand positioning, the use of the Aussie accent and the kangaroo on the label, you’d think it’s from down under. Nope, Lief Nelson discovered it was brewed in Fort Worth, Texas.
Deciding his life was a lie, he sued the beer company in 2015 for false advertising. He lost, because he didn’t read the fine print. At the bottom of the can, it says “Brewed and Packaged under the supervision of Foster’s Australia LTD. Melbourne, Australia by Oil Can Breweries, Albany GA and Fort Worth TX.”
Always read the fine print.
