One other student was injured in the attack, a 13-year-old girl, who is in critical condition.
Jason Seaman, a former defensive lineman for Southern Illinois, is being hailed as a hero for taking down the gunman and likely saving many lives.
From CBS Sports:
“It’s not surprising, to be honest,” Jason Seaman said of his brother’s heroics. “He’s not really ever been the person to run away. When the safety of the kids is at hand, it’s not surprising to me that he was going to do what he had to do.”
The gunman is reportedly a student who left the classroom, then returned with a gun and opened fire. He has been taken into custody.
