On the car ride home, her son’s girlfriend noticed something inside the bottle. At first, it appeared to be a cigarette, but they soon realized it was a note. They were worried the note was too wet to be removed without causing damage, so they tossed it in the oven to dry out before opening it.
Once opened, they realized the message was in German. Tonya’s husband Kym was able to figure out what the note was vaguely about, but contacted the Western Australia Maritime Museum for more information.
