Over the past two weeks you all noticed that the pre-roll ads on theCHIVE’s iOS app became the equivalent of throwing water on Gizmo - they multiplied and not in a good way. The glitch was unfortunately in the hands of our video partner to fix, something that did not happen. It was also something we didn’t take lightly here at theCHIVE where our Chivers’ user experience is everything.
Without going too deep here that once-independent company was acquired by Facebook in 2014 and two weeks ago, that smaller company began to migrate it’s tech into Facebook. Traditionally, that’s where glitches fester. And with a company as big as Facebook, this specific glitch was carelessly neglected.
And so, that company has now been sacked.
Full disclosure: As a company, serving pre-roll against our content is important, hosting these videos is expensive and, well, capitalism is still alive; we have wonderful people here I’m proud to employ. But we must make this right.
For the next couple weeks, you have a golden opportunity if you have the latest version of the iOS App, there will be no pre-roll ads served AT ALL. Just good old fashioned entertainment without the hassle.
This is a great opportunity for everybody to take a hot second to upgrade to the new version of the iOS app anyway, which today remains the highest-rated and most downloaded comedy app in the world. (I was kinda’ bragging there and Patty said I shouldn’t do that but the 3 glasses of wine won.)
Sorry for all that bullshit, Chivers.
Download or upgrade your iOS app RIGHT HERE
... and enjoy a vacation from the pre-roll ads for a while.
