“The Hateful Eight” was actually supposed to be a sequel to “Django Unchained.” It was originally titled “Django in White Hell.” Django would have replaced Major Warren Marquis’ role, but Tarantino realized something wasn’t natural about the story. He said the character had too much of a moral compass to be part of the terrible group of people the movie centers around. Tarantino does, however, pay homage to the original title by naming one of the chapters “Black Man, White Hell.”
