In a 1737 edition of the Pennsylvania Gazette, Franklin published the “Drinkers Dictionary,” which consisted of literally just 200 synonyms for getting hammered. Some interesting examples include: “He’s had a thump over the head with Sampson’s Jawbone,”“He’s contending with Pharaoh” and “He’s right before the wind with all his studding sails out.” That’s one way to put it.
