“Sing A Song Of Sixpence”
This one’s got an interesting backstory. Back in ye olde day of piracy, pirates often needed to recruit workers for robbing and looting. Being pirates, they couldn’t just announce themselves as pirates looking to hire more pirates, so, they came up with a song that would let people know they were hiring. The “sixpence” alluded to the pay, “a pocket full of rye” hinted at a bag full of whiskey for drinking, and the “blackbirds” were pirates. Very clever, also kind of creepy. Imagine being a kid and walking along the docks and seeing a sketchy pirate singing that song while smiling at you.
