You’ve heard the euphemisms your entire life. You can do and be anything you want. The world is the limit. It’s not how many times you get knocked down, it’s how many times you get back up. You claw and scrape, you do anything you have to do to get where you want to go. You never ever let anyone tell you what you can or can’t do.
As a disabled person myself, these sayings always hung over me, something that everyone just went along with but rarely believed. I hung my head and questioned my goals. There were more times than I could count that I avoided situations and/or people because I was terrified of how my disability would affect me—terrified of how I might look.
Well, I’m here to tell you, when you stop kicking your own ass and you start busting your ass, you really can do whatever the hell you want. The honest truth is, who gives a damn what they think? You’re not doing this for them, you’re doing it for you! I got my dream job and I’m just getting started.
If you’re looking for inspiration, for someone who kept their chin up, people who achieved what they were told they never would, there are limitless examples out there. I want to provide you with just a few though, because sometimes all you need is just a little inspiration.
