I usually end the Hump DAR with, well, a hump. But today I wanted to bring your attention to a masterfully written but little-celebrated article published on theCHIVE yesterday about an adorable girl named Alani.
At the tender age of 2, Alani was diagnosed with Lipodystrophy. The rarest of rare diseases affecting only one in ten million people. She experiences uncontrolled loss of fat tissue and a drop in the hormone leptin, resulting in a seriously unbalanced metabolism and life-threatening consequences like congestive heart failure and liver failure. There is no cure.
Chive Charities has donated $1,400 for a special mini wet suit for Alani so she can begin water therapy to ease her pain. We also donated a digital learning desk, and computer for her homeschooling.
Yesterday was World Rare Disease Day and I think it’s fantastic that the world recognizes such a day. But what makes me really proud is that on theCHIVE, every single day is Rare Disease Day. Our Green Members have become the steadfast guardians of the orphaned causes of the world, everyday.
Thing is, we publish these little articles every week on theCHIVE, they are not quite the massive flash campaigns we’ve become famous for, but they are no less important to me. And I wanted to thank all our bronze, silver, gold and green member in the DAR. You seek no attention or thanks for what your generosity; you go quietly about your business of helping others and saving lives ever single day. Thank you.
