Writing an introduction for a post while you’re filled to the brim with pure, white-hot anger isn’t a sound career move. So, to save me from myself, we’ll get right to the story. Four Philadelphia teens recently thought it a savvy idea to sucker-punch 38-year-old Mark Smith (a mentally disabled man) in the head for no apparent reason, record it and then upload it to social media. People were as irate as they were disgusted, and that’s still somehow an understatement.
The complete and utter outrage brought upon by the act was only matched by the necessity to track the group down, which was done swiftly. According to a local news station: “All four boys were apprehended by police Tuesday, but were released to the custody of their parents. Action News is told charges are pending. Police believe two of the boys connected to this videotaped incident were also involved in an attack on a school principal involving bricks last Friday. The boys could face charges including aggravated assault.”
