It’s Tuesday Chivers, which means we’re off the blocks and sprinting toward the weekend. We welcome the weekend with parties, pools, festivals, bars, dance floors, beer, and booze! But we want to help make sure that our Chivers are making safe and smart choices, not just for this weekend, but every day.
We’ve partnered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to bring you The Designated Chiver. On the night of Friday, August 11th, John Resig and Nikki Llorca will be offering their sober services to be your designated driver in the Austin area.
Call 512-328-3703 to put in your request for a pickup, and if we’re available, we’ll pick you up and drive you where you need to go for FREE. The number won’t be active until the day of, so store it in your phone for Friday night (8/11).
NHTSA and law enforcement across the country are working together to enforce drunk driving laws and save lives, especially from now through the upcoming Labor Day weekend – that special long weekend we all enjoy celebrating. So everyone please do the right thing and don’t drink and drive.
This is one of the deadliest times of the year for drunk-driving crashes. Over Labor Day weekend in 2015, there were 460 crash fatalities nationwide. 40% of those involved drivers who had been drinking – one quarter of whom were almost twice the legal limit or more… With NHTSA’s support, state and local law enforcement agencies across the country are stepping up enforcement to put an end to drunk driving.
Approximately a third of traffic fatalities in the United States involve drunk drivers and one person is killed every 51 minutes by a drunk driver on our Nation’s roadways. That’s over 10,000 people per year killed in a drunk driving crash. And did you know men are more likely than women to be driving drunk and involved in a fatal crash?
Here at theCHIVE we party with a purpose, but we also party with a plan. Agencies and law enforcement can only do so much, it’s up to us to make smart decisions to protect ourselves and the people around us. If we’re unable to pick you up on Friday PLEASE call a Fasten, Uber, Lyft, Ride Austin, or taxi.
You can also download NHTSA’s SaferRide mobile app for Android, and IOS. SaferRide allows you to call a taxi or a pre-chosen friend, and identifies your location to get you home safely.
