The title of this post is a quote from author Chuck Palahniuk, but it’s perfectly encompassing. The soul of Las Vegas could be described as a showgirl with a heart of gold. A town where the highs of winning meet the lows of losing it all. You leave with memories you’ll never match, and leave even more memories behind, blacked out on the gambling floor. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, or so the saying goes. Well, on October 1, 2017, that ideal was shattered. A gunman opened fire from the 32nd-floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, killing 58 and injuring 546, and suddenly all eyes were on Vegas, inside and out. In the midst of tragedy, Vegas has shown exactly what’s in its heart, its soul even.
