Up until now, I figured all we’d left on the moon were flags, footprints and a lunar module or two. Guess what though, that’s not it. Instead, it’s got way more of our crap than I expected.
As it turns out, every mission (of a total of 12) has left something behind. As well, any time NASA sends a probe up there, after it’s done its mission, they crash it into the planet. That’s how they bring a mission to a close. Yikes! While not everything up there is garbage (some of it is pretty symbolic), it’s still a lot of stuff to store on a rock we don’t currently have access to.
Here’s a de-classified inventory of what we’ve got stored in our lunar landfill site. Hopefully when Musk gets us up there, someone will clean and organize some of our stuff.
