The majority of us know him as Iceman, Batman, Jim Morrison and Doc Holliday – an icon of cinema. But Val Kilmer has been making art off the big screen for some time now. He has established himself as a poet and an artist – many of his works are enamel on steel, but his medium varies. Fun fact – you also might not know that Val was the youngest student ever admitted to the drama department at Julliard.
Val is one of a number of actors who have explored and expressed their creativity through artistic avenues other than the movie industry – Dennis Hopper, James Franco, and Jim Carrey are just a few examples. Personally, I love seeing artists play in different disciplines. We often are harsh in our assessments when people try to do something different from what we know them for, but it speaks to the breadth of their skill, the depth of their feeling, and a type of bravery that is commendable.
I do have a funny and strange Val Kilmer story to tell, but I don’t want to take away from this man’s art, so I’ll save that for another day… In the meantime, enjoy some of his work.
