For many of us, Steven Spielberg’s 1975 thriller Jaws was our first real introduction to sharks. When I say real, I mean that shit looked real enough back then to keep people out of the water for good. Though Spielberg’s shark had an unquenchable bloodlust and thirst for human flesh, the reality is you have a miniscule one in 11.5 million chance of being attacked by a shark. In fact, you’re more likely to win an Academy Award or a Nobel Prize, than be the victim of a shark attack. Unfortunately for the people below, the numbers worked against them.
