When it comes to adapting a novel for the screen, you’d think that the best person to do the job would be the author themselves. I bet you’d be pretty surprised that once an author sells the rights to the property, they’re pretty much hands off. And in most cases, they hate what they see on the screen.
Not so, for these guys. These authors wrote the book, then decided to make it into a movie themselves (with a studio’s help, of course). Most of them turned out ok. But not always.
Making a good movie is harder than you think.
