We really don’t take time to think about it, but agriculture has come a long way. Seriously. The vast majority of things that we eat today, and the crops that are the lifeblood of the economy, are nothing like they used to be, because we’ve learned how to manipulate them. That’s what we’re good at.
So, while most will jump on the GMO bandwagon when I say the above paragraph, and blame science and big agricultural corporations, this post isn’t about that. Not at all. We’ve actually been manipulating the genetics of our plants for millennia, and the ancestors of our favourite fruits and vegetables look nothing like the ones we have today.
