When it comes to game design, character is key. Unless there’s a great protagonist, with a cool backstory and awesome mechanics, no one is going to get into the game. So, given how important a main character is, you’d guess that it’s the element that take the most R&D and time to create right? Not always.
There’s a whole host of factors that go into a game design, and a lot of times, a main character’s look and power set, comes down to a bizarre array of reasons, influences and inspirations.
And sometimes, developers are just lazy and take the easy route.
