Last Wednesday, College Humor laid off 100+ of its staff, only a few employees remain. The collapse of College Humor marked the end of a comedy era. For 20 years, College Humor made the internet laugh. It gave rise to Jake and Amir as well as viral sensations, “If Google Was a Guy,” and “Batman Can’t Stop Thinking About Sex”.
For Mark Zuckerberg, the death of the 2nd largest comedy website in the world means his endgame is almost complete. He has crushed every single site in the once-thriving comedy vertical – Cracked, Break, Funny or Die, The Onion is bleeding employees and now, College Humor is gone. I’ve predicted this outcome but I think the fall of College Humor has shaken everybody, even the doubters. How could this happen?
