As someone who has had a lifelong appreciation for the fantasy genre, I’ll be the first to admit that the fictionalization of our medieval times can often be a tad… sanitized.
We love stories of knights and heroes and swords and thrones, but what tends to be left out of those tales is just how, well, gross everything was back then.
Showers didn’t exist, bath were rare, and water was so risky to drink that folks tended to hydrate with alcoholic beverages instead of a cool glass of H2O.
Suffice it to say, things were pretty stinky back then. Hardly the setting for tales of romance.
