Halloween is upon us. And if you’re lucky, you may have already been invited to a costume party.
Whether or not you’re a fan of dressing up, you’re going to have to participate. I’ve always been a believer in going big or going home, and Halloween is no exception. If you’re gonna do the bit, might as well commit.
With that said, there’s a certain type of low effort ensemble I can’t stand: the pun costume.
You know the routine. You’re minding your own business by the snack table when someone taps your shoulder wearing a plain white tee with “GO CEILING!” written in Sharpie.
Their eyes meet yours. They grin.
“Get it?” they blurt out. “I’m a… ceiling fan!”
And just like that, you’re trapped in a hostage situation, forced to manufacture a polite chuckle so they feel validated while your soul leaves your body. You feel like yelling “BOO!” (and not the scary kind).
Worse yet, these walking dad-jokes always find a way to hijack group photos. Picture four of your buddies who actually put in the work—the Joker, Ron Burgundy, Master Chief, and Gene Simmons from KISS. They look incredible.
And dead-center in the frame is Kevin, holding a crushed box of Cheerios with a plastic knife stabbed through it.
Needless to say, Kevin ruined the picture. But he’s far from alone.
Here are some of the most egregious pun costumes floating around this October—viewer discretion advised.
