Last October Danny Nickerson was diagnosed with a tumor that is traditionally one of the most chemotherapy-resistant. From November to December, Danny endured 33 radiation treatments and dropped out of kindergarden. Danny became lonely without other children around to play with. But then on Easter he received some cards, wishing him well. Danny’s mother said, “For some reason Danny LOVED seeing his name on the packages.”
But the packages tapered off after Easter and finally stopped all together.
The tiny clip from the Plainville News has been swirling around theCHIVE since early this morning. Danny Nickerson is about to turn 6 years-old and his one wish is to have people send him a birthday card, that’s all.
You’ll also notice on the clip that, so far, Danny has received 40 packages. It’s RAKit week and I had this vision in my head that if I brought this to the Chivers… maybe that tiny P.O. box in Foxboro, Massachusetts might suddenly become an postal avalanche of birthday cards and well-wishes. And I believe that’s just what we’re about to do.
Danny’s birthday is in two days, and I really don’t think it’s of any consequence if some cards arrive a little late. Danny’s address is below. If you feel like doing a little more I’m told Danny loves Legos and Super Mario toys. I like him already.
