Malcolm Young was the primary songwriter for AC/DC, and that band has put out two albums since his death.

Both “Rock or Bust” and “Power Up” have all of their tracks written by Malcolm, and he’s playing rhythm guitar on all of them. Basically, he and Angus wrote and recorded SO many songs back during the “Black Ice” sessions when he was still healthy, that they had at least two albums worth of extra material to mine from.

“Rock or Bust” was very ho-hum, but I think “Power Up” is their best album in decades. People joke about AC/DC songs all sounding the same, and that’s probably why the songs from “Power Up” weren’t used on the “Black Ice” album. Because they’re a bit different from their regular mold. Hell, “Through the Mists of Time” is actually contemplative, and written in a major rather than minor key!

I mean, Malcolm’s demise and death is a tragedy, don’t get me wrong. But I do think being forced to reach for material that’s a bit more experimental and outside their normal range helped them produce one of their best albums.
