I used to read MAD Magazines all the time when I was a young lad (late ’90s, early 2000s).
I would collect them. And by “collect them,” I mean I would pile up a bunch of them next to the crapper and spend 45 minutes sifting through them every morning.
And by “read them” I mean stared at the covers, looked at “Spy vs Spy” and the “Mad Look At” series — only because there was no text.
But the covers were iconic. Whether that’s the pile stacked next to the basement toilet or picking them up at convenience stores, the MAD mag covers were grade A time-wasters.
The covers were each artistic and satirical reflections of American pop culture, blending top-shelf satire with its goofy and recognizable mascot, Alfred E. Neuman.
(Shout-out to my buddy, who we still nickname “Alfy” because he looked exactly like Alfred E. Neuman as a kid.)
Anyway, here are some MAD Magazine covers from the turn of the century that’ll kick you right in the nostalgia.
