Yet another acclaimed actor is poised to take on the daunting task of portraying The Clown Prince of Chaos.
A standalone origin story about The Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix as the title role is set to start shooting in September and hit theaters October 2019 — a mere three weeks before Wonder Woman 1984.
The Oscar Winner will team up with director Todd Phillips and Warner Bros. for the film, which will simply be called Joker.
Some people are beyond excited for the flick, believing a talent like Phoenix (Walk The Line, The Master, Her) can do no wrong. Others are a tad uneasy about the prospect.
There has also been no word on how this movie will tie into Jared Leto’s Joker, if at all. Though it does seem like Phillips (The Hangover, War Dogs) wants to take things in a direction less familiar to the superhero genre.
Joker will be an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, that’s “meant to be different from comic book super hero movies.”
