Get ready for some nostalgia overload. We sat down with one of the most iconic ’90s actors to have graced the silver screen. There’s something to be said about starting your career as a child actor and pushing your way through into steady roles as an adult. So without further ado…
The Chive: Today we’re joined by a super special guest. Aaron Schwartz! You might know him from Mighty Ducks, but I really want to talk about Heavyweights if that’s cool?
Aaron Schwartz: Yeah, of course! It seems to be a fan favorite as of recent years.
Chive: So was it intimidating taking on the lead role of Gerry when you had this great ensemble cast? You know, you have Shaun Weiss, you have Keenan, Ben Stiller, Paul Feig. Or were you just genuinely excited to jump in?
Aaron: It was, I think there was a little bit of nerves when I was a little kid though. I’m still driven, but I was extremely driven as a kid. Just a couple years prior, I booked The Mighty Ducks. I booked it when I was 10. I was like, I needed to be in movies for some weird reason. I wasn’t pushed into it by my parents or anything. I just was obsessed. I was like, I’m gonna be in movies. And so once I got The Mighty Ducks, I was like, let’s go!
That was also a long time ago. But I remember getting the script and literally reading it 50 times, maybe, like I had it outlined. I knew it and I think part of it was because I was nervous. I have so many lines in here, but I remember being excited. I’m like, that means I’m gonna be working all the time. I’m gonna be on camera all the time. I loved it once it started going. I was in Disneyland, basically. It was a dream come true.
