Feel old yet? Scream – a movie inspired by the horror films that came before it – would go on to change the slasher genre forever. The film was released on December 20th, 1996. Obviously a risk, releasing a horror flick so close to Christmas. But that was also kind of the idea. With so many children’s and family-centric movies around the holidays, the studio wanted to give horror fans something to be excited about. Scream delivered.
