IMDb’s Top Movies of All Time (But Only the Ones From 2000 On)

I majored in Film Studies at university.

And by “majored” I mean I played Pokémon Blue and Red emulators in the back of the class, hated the entire curriculum after two months, and dropped out.

But still… I majored in film studies.

My initial hope when I went into Film Studies was that classes would be us critiquing movies I liked: Dude, Where’s My Car? American Pie, Office Space, and instead of writing essays, we’d just quote the movies over lunch afterwards.

So, you can probably see why a career in film studies wasn’t for me. Instead, we’d watch 1927’s Metropolis three times in a row (for real), and dissect (as a class) why we thought Fritz Lang chose to use high-contrast lighting and sweeping camera movement.

That’s why, whenever I comb through IMDB’s Top 250 movies of all time, I really just want to know the high-rated movie of MY TIME. Like 2000s to now.

I really do think IMDB is a reliable barometer for gauging whether a movie is good or not. With that said, here are the highest-rated movies of all time, according to IMDB (based on users’ 10-point grade), but only movies from 2000 onwards.

Sorry, film historians.

(As a baseline, The Shawshank Redemption (1994) is IMDB’s highest-rated movie of all-time, with a 9.3 score from 3.2 million user votes…)
