There are some really brilliant films that break the mold and show us a dark side of this world. These films stick with us. They are visceral and leave a mark – even if they don’t have scenes that are visually brutal, violent, or disturbing the entire scope of the film can haunt us for some time.
Let’s start with the iconic American History X and the brutal “curb stomp” scene. I had never seen any act of violence like this when I was a teen and watched it. This film left me shook. It has an very important message but you must wade through murky social waters and disturbing idealogies first. The ending is just as shocking as the beginning.
