I’d consider myself an avid horror movie watcher, and definitely a fan of the genre. However, even I was a bit shocked when I saw a reddit post going viral that read, “Only 6 horror movies have been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.”
So I did what any internet-dweller would do…I started googling, and sure enough. But ‘horror’ is a tough genre because you could easily throw in thrillers, sci-fi, even some dramas. Now let’s not play dumb. We all know what a horror movie is, and so does the Academy.
But how did we get to this point? I wanted to take a look at each of the six nominated horror flicks and see what went wrong or – more likely – what the Academy missed.
