It’s been 18 years to the day since the stoner comedy Pineapple Express blessed our screens.
Coming off the blockbuster success of 2007’s Superbad, 2008 saw a more adult (well, on paper) comedy from writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, again working with Judd Apatow and bringing in Danny McBride and James Franco for starring roles.
Pineapple Express wasn’t nearly the success of Superbad, netting just $102.4 million at the box office, but with a budget of $26 million, one would hardly call it a flop.
Looking back 18 years later (and from a place where cannabis is legalized), Pineapple Express really did capture the stoner vibes from the 2000s — awkward hangs with your weed dealer, coming up with creative new ways to smoke, and, occasionally, some anxiety-inducing run-ins with the law.
