Some movies age… and then there’s Stand By Me, which somehow just stays.
Somehow it balances dick jokes, childhood trauma, and one of the most quietly devastating lines ever: I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve.
That’s the hook. That’s why, 40 years later, the film still hits and stands by you. It reminds you of your friends, your hometown, and that version of yourself that didn’t know what was coming yet.
If it’s been a while, consider the anniversary a sign to throw it on. It’s one of my favourites and is seriously one of the best films ever made.
