‘The Ballad of Wallis Island’ Cast Hits Lotto on Festival Circuit – SXSW 2025

What would you do if you won the lottery? It’s a question that gets asked pretty frequently. But what if you hit the lottery twice? Screenwriters Tom Basden and Tim Key attempt to solve that exact quandary with their new dramatic comedy, The Ballad of Wallis Island.
The film had its premiere at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and we were then graced with its presence here in Austin at SXSW. The movie is a bit of a gut-punch in terms of what the characters have to go through.
But the performances turned in by Basden and Key, not to mention a subtle yet powerful showing from Carey Mulligan make this a must-watch film.
