A quick note up top: This wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t mention that Godzilla himself is a knock-off.
In 1953, a film called The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms was released, and is about a prehistoric dinosaur sealed in Arctic ice that’s unleashed by an atom bomb test. While the original Godzilla from 1954 was obviously also based on the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the concept of “giant lizard rampages through big city” was taken from The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms.
