I’d know her violent gyrations anywhere…
It’s Ann-Margret!
The Swedish-American actress, singer, and dancer has shaken her hips across the silver screen over a career spanning seven decades.
After immigrating to the United States in 1949, Ann-Margret Olsson began dance classes at an early age, eventually becoming the star of her high school theatre program.
In 1961, Ann-Margret released her debut album with RCA Victor and was signed to a seven-year contract with 20th Century Fox. Her 1961 film debut in Pocketfull of Miracles (with the legendary Bette Davis) earned Ann-Margret her first Golden Globe for New Actress of the Year.
The following year, Ann-Margret played opposite Bobby Darin and Pat Boone in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical State Fair. However, it was her role in the 1963 musical film Bye Bye Birdie that made Ann-Margret a star, earning her a Best Actress Golden Globe nomination and landing her the cover of Life magazine.
The chemistry between Ann-Margret and Elvis Presley was evident on set of their first film together, Viva Las Vegas, in 1964. They took their connection off-screen with an affair that was the subject of tabloid gossip, but it was Priscilla Beaulieu who married Presley in 1967. Ann-Margret and Elvis would go on to film three more films together.
While working on 1965 crime film, Once a Thief, Ann-Margret met her future husband, Roger Smith. The two were married in 1967, with Smith taking over as her manager.
Ann-Margret continued to work in film through the 1970s but transitioned to television in the 1980s, winning the 1984 and 1985 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV for Who Will Love My Children? and A Streetcar Named Desire, respectively.
As recently as 2010, Ann-Margret won an Emmy for her guest spot on Law & Order: SVU and has continued her career – acting, singing, and gyrating to this day.
