The goal of that project is to review infamous movies and see if they live up to their infamous reputations, and that usually tends to put a number of B-movies into my crosshairs. What always strikes me is that a lot of the B-movies I’ve reviewed could have been much better if there was more effort and more creativity behind their ideas, and sometimes they do (if you’d like an example of a B-movie that rises above its limitations, you must watch Tremors II: Aftershocks). With that in mind, I have to give credit where credit is due to Werewolves, which is a full-throated B-movie that is clearly trying to aim for the moon with its ambitions, pun fully intended. There are definitely problems with this movie that are easily identified, but you can tell that director Steven C. Miller has a real vision for a wild version of the werewolf concept that splices multiple genres into one. Werewolves is a bit too lean for its own good where its main plot and characters are concerned, but the worldbuilding on its edges is some of the best I’ve seen in a low-budget movie in a long time.
