I don’t know if we fully appreciate just how strange the original Ghostbusters is. It’s a film about a group of parapsychologists in New York City fighting a god of destruction. And it’s a comedy. Enough said.
What you may not know though is that the film we got was far less strange than the one that was originally written. In late 1981, Dan Aykroyd began the first draft of the script, and it’s… Batshit. Utterly batshit, and the part where Aykroyd was hoping to have Paul Reubens play Gozer isn’t even the craziest part, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
