Woohoo! New “Simpsons” Movie Sequel Announced For 2027
Springfield’s headed back to the big screen: a new Simpsons movie is officially set for July 23, 2027.
It’s the second feature outing for Homer & Co., sliding into a Disney release slot that an untitled Marvel flick just vacated.
And sure, The Simpsons franchise is a shade of its former self, but the pop culture phenomenan has done enough to warrant at least considering watching the sequel.
For nostalgia’s sake: The Simpsons Movie (2007) was a monster—$74M opening weekend, $183M domestic, $536M worldwide—back when TV juggernauts could still crush theaters. (
Plot details on the new film are under wraps for now; as soon as we know more, we’ll shout it from the Kwik-E-Mart roof.
The internet (embedded below) is clammering for Hank Scorpio to be the main villain of the sequel — a long-standing rumor that he was a scrapped villain for the original movie.
Meanwhile, the show that started in 1989 is still trucking in Season 37. Created by James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, and Sam Simon, the working-class chaos of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie began as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987 before going full Springfield.
Voices you know by heart: Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Julie Kavner (Marge), Nancy Cartwright (Bart), Yeardley Smith (Lisa), plus multi-role MVPs Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer.
