How did such a total moron walk out of interviews looking like an absolute genius?
Ali G was my first introduction to any of Sacha Baron Cohen’s characters and I remember falling for it, too.
Even knowing Ali G was a gimmick, he felt real. I don’t blame politicians, celebrities, and other high-profile members of society for falling for his insane persona.
Ali G convinced interviewees that he was an idiot, let them let their guard down, and then went right for the throat.
It was amazing.
He allowed his subjects to feel above Ali G, the twit wearing a loud tracksuit, durag, and looking culturally out of place.
Once Ali G established himself as the fool, the room — no matter how powerful — relaxed, and that’s when Ali G went for the jugular.
