Nearly Two Decades Later, ‘Dick in a Box’ Remains Our Favorite Christmas Song
The Lonely Island’s Digital Short, “Dick in a Box” premiered on December 16th, 2006. That night, Justin Timberlake was starring on the show as both host and musical guest. Andy Samberg was tasked with writing a ‘musical sketch’ for the episode.
The result was nothing short of a masterpiece. “Dick in a Box” would go on to win an Emmy in 2007 for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. The award coming even after an agreement had to be made with the FCC. This led to SNL bleeping out the word ‘Dick’ 16 times during the live broadcast.
The story behind this iconic skit is one as magical as Christmas itself.
